Sony collaborates with accessibility experts to introduce the inaugural PS5 controller for gamers with disabilities.
The Access Controller is a versatile kit featuring various buttons, triggers, and sticks, empowering players to configure their ideal setup. While Microsoft’s Adaptive Controller has been available for Xbox and PC since 2018, Sony’s offering is the first tailored specifically for the PS5.
Alvin Daniel, Senior Technical Program Manager at Sony Interactive Entertainment, highlighted its user-friendly nature, stating, “The idea is that you unbox it and you can start using it right away as a PlayStation controller.” By eliminating the need for additional third-party accessories or complex wiring, Sony aims to deliver an all-in-one solution.
Creating inclusive accessibility products poses significant challenges due to the unique nature of each individual’s impairment and the ever-evolving gaming technology. Sony’s approach revolves around customization, allowing users to fine-tune the solution to suit their distinct needs.
