BYD, the prominent Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, announced on Wednesday that it has successfully secured a conditional testing permit for level 3 autonomous driving on high-speed roads. This significant development marks a milestone for the company in advancing its autonomous driving capabilities.
Having acquired the first license of its kind in China back in July, BYD reaffirmed this achievement through a statement on its official Weibo account. This move highlights the company’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of autonomous driving technology within the country.
In a similar vein, notable automotive players like BMW Group and Mercedes Benz have also made strides in this domain. BMW Group disclosed its reception of a testing license for L3 self-driving on high-speed roads in Shanghai, while Mercedes Benz unveiled plans for L3 testing on specified highways in Beijing.
Moreover, IM Motors, the electric vehicle brand under the umbrella of Chinese automotive giant SAIC Motor, is actively seeking approval from China’s industry ministry for the introduction of L3 cars into the market. This concerted effort across multiple automotive entities signifies the growing emphasis and investment in advancing autonomous driving technology within China’s automotive landscape.
